Tatsuno, Japan — 2017
Photography by Jamaica Jones
Rows of yellow bloom stretch across cultivated ground, bright against distant hills and open sky. The landscape appears expansive yet carefully tended—shaped by season, soil, and human care.
Growth here is cyclical and intentional. Color arrives briefly each spring before returning again to green and earth. Seen from a distance, the field reads as pattern as much as place—balancing agriculture, atmosphere, and rhythm.
Rather than isolating spectacle, the photograph observes repetition: planting, bloom, and eventual return to soil.
The bright yellow field and open sky bring warmth and movement to interiors grounded in natural materials and light tones.
Still Ground explores landscapes shaped by long-term care and natural cycles. Prairie, cultivated fields, stone, water, and built forms appear as environments held in quiet continuity. Rather than dramatic moments, the series focuses on presence—what remains, what recovers, and how land holds memory over time.
