Title: Trees at Potter Lake

Series: Illuminated

Location: University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas

Year: 2021

Medium: Archival Pigment Photograph

Artist: Jamaica Jones

A small stand of trees rests in ambient night light near Potter Lake. Grass glows faintly beneath them while the canopy dissolves into shadow and sky.

There is no singular focal point. Illumination moves laterally across trunks, branches, and open ground, defining space through gradation rather than contrast.

The scene remains suspended - neither fully dark nor fully revealed - light functioning as quiet structure rather than spectacle.

Illuminated explores moments when structure and symbol are transformed by light. Photographed at dusk, night, or during transitional hours, the series reveals subtle shifts in atmosphere and perception. Monuments, landmarks, and built forms become quieter and more reflective, shaped as much by illumination as by material.
