Title: The Burning Bush
Series: Illuminated
Location: Lawrence, Kansas
Year: 2021Medium: Archival Pigment Photograph
Artist: Jamaica Jones
A stained glass window glows against the night sky, saturated reds, blues, and greens fracturing into shifting planes of color. Seen from the side, the glass becomes almost architectural — light held in lead and surface.
Photographed on the campus of the University of Kansas, the familiar symbol shifts through angle and darkness. Narrative recedes as color and geometry take over, the window reading less as illustration and more as composition.
Against the surrounding night, the illuminated glass becomes briefly elemental — color suspended in shadow.
Illuminated explores moments when familiar places are transformed by changing light. Photographed at dusk, night, or during transitional hours, the series observes how landmarks, structures, and landscapes shift in atmosphere as illumination alters what we see.
