A bronze figure rises into a cloud-filled night sky, illuminated from below. The raised hand rests between gesture and stillness, the form appearing at once grounded and monumental.

Photographed on the campus of the University of Kansas, the sculpture’s textured surface catches light in shifting planes, revealing layers of shadow, reflection, and material weight. What reads as a monument by day becomes something quieter after dark — a silhouette briefly held in illumination.

Seen at night, the figure feels less symbolic and more atmospheric, suspended between presence and shadow.

Illuminated explores moments when light alters the way we perceive structure and form. Photographed at dusk, night, or during transitional hours, the series observes how monuments, landmarks, and built environments are transformed by illumination. Familiar forms become quieter, more reflective, shaped as much by light as by the materials that hold them.
