Surface: Above the Plain
Colorado Springs, Colorado - 2017
Photography by Jamaica Jones
From altitude, the land resolves into lines, seams, and quiet bends—water carving its way through an otherwise restrained surface. The aircraft wing cuts the frame diagonally, a reminder of scale and distance, while the ground below reads almost as drawing.
This photograph holds a suspended moment between departure and arrival, where geography becomes abstraction and movement slows into observation.
Surface is a study of material, texture, and the visible imprint of time. These photographs focus closely on stone, metal, wood, and built elements shaped by weathering, use, and natural processes. Removed from broad context, each image highlights how surface records history—through erosion, patina, repetition, and wear.
